Excerpted from Ralph Goes to Egypt:
We jumped from the boat together and had no trouble keeping our balance on the giant log. The log rode alongside the boat, and we figured we could always get back onto the boat if we wanted.
What do you think about this, Wesley?” I barked. “Isn’t this cool?”
“It sure is,” he replied. “I wonder if our Moms and Dads can see us.”
My Dad appeared on deck just as we began to drift away from the side of the boat. He began waving at us, and we barked to let him know we saw him. He kept on waving his arms in a very agitated fashion and we couldn’t understand why he was so upset.
“Why do you suppose your Dad is so upset?” Wesley asked. “We are perfectly safe, aren’t we?”
“Of course we are,” I replied. “But I don’t understand why he is waving at us and what he’s yelling about.”
“It sounds like ‘crocodile’ to me,” Wesley suggested.
“Oh, I see, he’s trying to tell us that there are crocodiles in the river, and that we should be careful.”
“What’s a crocodile?” Wesley asked.
